Letter to the Community

The following information was sent to families via SchoolMessenger on Friday, November 17 with the subject "WJMS Community". The content has been formatted for the web.

Good afternoon, West Jeff Middle families. Following please find a letter from our assistant principal Tricia Samuelson, who has been on a medical leave of absence from our school.

Dear West Jefferson community,

As Thanksgiving approaches, I wanted to take this opportunity to say how grateful I am for the wonderful students, staff and families of the West Jefferson Middle School community.

I am beyond grateful for the support this community has provided me as I continue my battle against stage four breast cancer. While I have been battling breast cancer since 2015, the return of the cancer two years ago has resulted in what has been the hardest and most important battle of my life.

Ongoing chemotherapy treatments have caused me to experience significant side effects resulting in hospitalization and my absence from work since the beginning of this school year. These factors have made it necessary for me to refocus all of my energy on my health and family.

Therefore it is with immense sadness that I have decided to resign my position as assistant principal at West Jefferson Middle School. Words cannot express how greatly I will miss the students, staff and families of West Jeff Middle and wish everyone the best for the future.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Tricia (Samuelson) Holmes

We held interviews for the interim assistant principal position this week. Mr. Squires, our current dean of students, was the candidate selected by the interview committee. We are excited to have Mr. Squires begin his role as interim assistant principal for West Jeff Middle.

We hope everyone one has a safe and relaxing Thanksgiving break.
