Remote Learning Plan

Beginning on Monday, November 16th, Jeffco Public Schools students in grades 6-12 will move toward remote learning.

Table of Contents:

Timeline for Transition

Jeffco Public Schools has made the decision to shift to 100% remote learning for grades 6-12 starting Monday, November 16th. This will continue through winter break when district leadership and JCPH reassess the COVID numbers.

Our current hybrid and remote learning models were designed to support a seamless transition in and out of remote learning. All West Jeff Middle students should plan to remotely join their Trimester 2 classes on Monday, November 16.

Families will want to ensure their students complete the following three tasks over the weekend between trimesters:

For additional support finding schedules, classroom codes, and joining classrooms, please view the Tri 2 Schedules & Matrix video.

Bell Schedule

We will return to the remote learning schedule that we followed at the start of the 2020-2021 school year.

Students in the hybrid learning model will attend classes synchronously online Monday through Thursday with students in the 100% remote learning model instead of spending two of those days in the building.

There are two changes to the schedule we will be following:

  • Students only have Homeroom on Blue days. Teachers will have Office Hours on Silver days for communication and student appointments.

  • The class times have shifted on Fridays to allow for a 30 minute lunch break.

Learning Management System

Teachers will continue to update their Google Classroom with lesson resources and class assignments. Google Classroom will continue to be the place to find learning/attendance tasks for each class on Fridays.

If your student is having difficulties accessing their Google Classroom, please have them reach out directly to the classroom teacher.

Attendance: Synchronous (Monday-Thursday)

Students will be counted present and on-time if they log into their teacher's Google Meet within the first five minutes when their class is scheduled to begin. Students must have their camera on, be visible, and engage/interact with the teacher to be counted present.

Students who have their cameras on during direct instruction or class activities in Google Meets are more engaged and the teacher is better equipped to monitor student engagement or questions. If your child is logged in to their Google Classroom, but not responding to the teacher verbally or in the chat, your child will be marked absent. Students must be engaged with the teacher and other students in the Google Classroom to count as attending.

If your student or household is having internet or other technology issues that prevents them from turning on their camera, an adult family member should call the attendance line at 303-982-3051 or email Julie.Barrett@jeffco.k12.co.us.

Attendance: Asynchronous (Friday)

Fridays are a time for interventions, small groups, and instructional support during the specified class period. Some teachers require all students to attend their class Google Meet on Fridays for a short period of time. Some teachers post the learning task or quiz in their Google Classroom and then just meet with a small group of students for learning support.

Students should login to all their Google Classrooms on Friday during the specified times to check what their assignment is for the day. Students will be counted present if they complete the learning task/assignment posted on their Google Classroom by 2:00 pm on Friday.

Student Support: Special Education Services

We will work with the families of students with IEPs on an individual basis regarding how remote learning will continue with your student. Learning specialists and paraeducators provide support during class time and they have additional time for scheduled support during homeroom, office hours, and on Fridays. If you have specific questions about how your child’s learning and IEP goals will be supported, please contact their case manager.

Student Support: Office Hours

Student support will look similar during remote learning. Teachers will now have "office hours" on Silver block days from 1:20 - 2:20 pm for communication with students and families. This time can also be used for students or families to schedule a quick online meeting or phone call to speak directly with the teacher.

Family Support: Food Service

During the week of November 16, Grab and Go meals will be available for pickup at our school from 3 to 4 pm on Tuesday, November 17 and Thursday, November 19.

Beginning November 30, meal service will transition to remote meal distribution sites. Our local meal distribution site will be West Jefferson Elementary School, 26501 Barkley Road. Meal packs will be available for pickup each Tuesday and Thursday between 3:30 and 4:30 pm. Pickup is inside the building, not curbside pickup.

Meal packs will contain breakfasts and lunches for three days (Tuesday) or four days (Thursday) that are designed to either be served cold (sandwiches, yogurt, etc.) or meant for heating at home. Heating and storage instructions will be included with meals.

Students do not need to be present to pick up meals. Adults may pick up meal packs for younger siblings or additional students (e.g., students that are remote learning together). Names of students will be recorded for documentation. All must wear a mask or face covering and follow social distancing when picking up meals.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I see what work my student needs to complete?

Families have the option to receive guardian summaries from their student's/students' Google Classrooms. Families may choose the frequency of the email summaries, such as daily (weekdays) or weekly, and unsubscribe or remove themselves from Classroom at any time.

Guardian email summaries include:

  • Missing work—Work that’s late at the time the email was sent
  • Upcoming work—Work that’s due today and tomorrow (for daily emails) or work that’s due in the upcoming week (for weekly emails)
  • Class activity—Announcements, assignments, and questions recently posted by teachers

Google's Classroom Help has a page with additional information and an example summary at Classroom email summaries for guardians.

We believe that having this information will be helpful for families trying to monitor and support their student's/students' work in Google Classroom. We will be adding a tutorial video on our Remote Learning Resources website. Additional questions or concerns may be directed to digital teacher-librarian Amy Baker at ambaker@jeffco.k12.co.us or principal Kim Halingstad at khalings@jeffco.k12.co.us.
