School News

Congratulations to percussionist Matthew P., who was selected for All-County Middle School Honor Jazz Band!

 

As part of our ongoing communication to families regarding recent safety incidents, letters were sent via SchoolMessenger on April 24, April 25, and April 30. There are many anonymous and safe ways that you can report information, like emailing a staff member or using Safe2Tell. If you have any questions, please contact our main office at 303-982-3056.

 

Schools across our country will celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week during the week of May 6. Details of how our school will celebrate is in the PTA News section.

 

Seventh grade students that have applied to be a WEB leader in the 2024-2025 school year are reminded that the May Play Day will take place during 5th period on Monday, May 6th. You will be excused from class, but not the work you missed. Please contact Mrs. Buffington with questions.

 

The draft minutes from the April School Accountability Committee meeting are available on the school website. The next meeting will take place on Monday, May 13 at 4 pm.

 

Eighth grade students interested in joining the 2024-2025 Conifer High School Poms team are asked to sign up for either of the tryout times: 6 - 8 PM on Monday, May 6 or 4 - 6 PM on Tuesday, May 7. All experience levels are welcome! Please email [email protected] with the night you plan to attend and any questions.

 

Students that eat school lunch, please have your student ID ready to scan the barcode in the lunch line. If you need a replacement ID, please email Mrs. Baker.

 

Congratulations to the student teams that participated in our school competition for the Jeffco Middle School Battle of the Books! Our winning team will compete against teams from other Jeffco middle schools at the Jeffco Public Schools Ed Center, 1829 Denver West Drive Building 27, on Monday, May 13th, 8 am - 12 pm.

 

Individual counseling services with Resilience 1220 therapists are now being offered at our school during the school day. If your student already works with a Resilience 1220 therapist and you are interested in your student meeting during the school day, please reach out to your therapist directly. If you are interested in beginning services with a Resilience 1220 therapist during the school day, please reach out to Melissa Shute at [email protected].

 

Jeffco students have access to telehealth visits at school or at home through the district's partnership with Hazel Health. For more information and to complete the consent form, please visit Jeffco Public Schools and Hazel Health. Services are available through the summer, with physical health sessions available weekdays from 8 am - 3 pm and mental health sessions are available weekdays from 7 am - 7 pm.

 

Adult family or community members available at the beginning or end of the school day to help keep the drop-off and pickup of students safe and well supervised are invited to volunteer with our Watch D.O.G.S.! We are celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week next week, May 6 - 10. There will be lots of ways to show our amazing teachers some love:

Monday, May 6: Fiesta Bar! Taco Tuesday but on a Monday :)

Tuesday, May 7: Blooming Tuesday. Students bring notes and flowers to their teachers. 

Wednesday, May 8: Caffeinate & Educate! Coffee bar & pastries for teachers and staff

Thursday, May 9: Sweets & Treats.  A little something salty and a little something sweet. 

Friday, May 10: Sip Sip Hooray! Drink bar set up all day for staff. Families can sign up to contribute and drop off items anytime between now and Thursday, May 9th using the Teacher Appreciation Week - Friday Drink Bar SignUpGenius.

 

Adult volunteers interested in helping put on the 8th grade Continuation celebration on Thursday, May 23 may confirm the role(s) they would like to help with at the Island in the Sun 8th Grade Continuation Party Planning SignUpGenius.

Community News

Jeffco Public Schools is hiring! There are available positions in many areas for adults interested in working for Jeffco Public Schools. Learn more about available positions and apply online on the Jeffco Jobs Board at jeffcok12jobs.org.

We have an opening at our school for an Independence Support Para Educator in the 2024-2025 school year: Job 27573 - Para Educator - Center 6th and 7th Various. The position is .875 FTE (7 hours/day) and starts at $19.13/hour.

 

Healthy School Meals for All: Mountain Resource Center invites families to help continue ensuring funding for Healthy School Meals for All, the program that voters approved that has been feeding all our school children at no cost in Colorado, by completing the Meal Benefits Application. No matter when families fill out the application, it can help with future funding!

 

Conifer High School MTB Team: Families of students that will be in eighth through twelfth grade in the 2024-2025 school year interested in joining the Conifer High School Mountain Bike Team are invited to a preseason meeting on Wednesday, May 1st from 6 - 8 pm in the Conifer High School cafetorium. Bingo Night: Conifer Lobos Football is hosting bingo at the Aspen Park Community Center (26215 Sutton Rd, Conifer) on Thursday, May 2nd. Come out and support the football program, have fun playing bingo, and bid on silent auction items. The suggested donation is $10 for 5 games. Appetizers and drinks will be available with donations. Please RSVP on the Conifer Lobo Football Bingo SignUpGenius to help the organizers plan for food and drinks. 

 

Future Cougar Volleyball Camp: Evergreen Cougar Volleyball is hosting a volleyball camp for students in sixth through eighth grades, 4:30 - 6:30 pm on Monday, May 6 and Wednesday, May 8 in the Evergreen Middle School gym. Registration is open through Thursday, May 2. The cost is $40 for both days, or $25 per session if you can only make one, and includes a camp t -shirt!

 

West Jeff Elementary retirement party: The community is invited to celebrate Mrs. Karen Duquette, who has taught for many years in Jeffco and the last twelve years at West Jeff Elementary. Please join us in celebrating Mrs. Duquette’s retirement on Tuesday, May 21 from 3 - 5 pm at West Jeff Elementary (26501 Barkley Rd, Conifer).

Evergreen Hurricanes Swim Team: summer swim team special May 28 - July 8, approximately six opportunities to participate weekly.

Summer Musical Theatre Camp at CenterStage in Evergreen: theatre tech one and two-week sessions in June, and a two-week scenes from Hadestown session June 3 - 14.

Summer Dance Camps: summer session June 3 - 28, classes available for different experience levels and ages at Kinetic Arts Dance Studio in Evergreen

Juniors Beach Volleyball Camp: Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays from 9 to 11 am at Flourish Beach in Indian Hills, sessions June 3 - June 28 and July 1 - July 26

Inspire Juniors Rec Conifer: mountain biking Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 - 7 pm at parks in or near Conifer, summer season June 13 - August 8.

Mountain Predators Football and Cheer: practices begin in August; 8-game season at Front Range locations from late August through November. First-year players may register for free using the code MYFNEW at checkout. Early Bird pricing ends April 30.

South Jeffco Coyotes Football and Cheer: practices begin in August; 8-game season at Front Range locations from late August through November.

 

Evergreen Farmers Market: The Evergreen Farmers Market at El Rancho is returning for its sixth year from 10 am - 2 pm Tuesdays starting May 28 and running through October 1. The market will have about 50 vendors weekly with a bit of everything including local produce, bakery, tamales, coffee, olive oils, and plated food as well as live music.

 

Resilience1220: Connect, Grow, ThriveResilience1220 events: Resilience1220 is a local non-profit organization that provides free counseling sessions and support groups for young people ages 12-20, and community outreach and events that increase awareness of mental health issues. Some of their upcoming events:

May 8: 5th Annual Elevating Youth Mental Health Fundraiser, 5 - 8 pm at CenterStage, 27608 Fireweed Drive, Evergreen

May 14: Beyond the Rainbow, 6 - 7:30 pm, separate groups for youth and adult family members that are LGBTQ+ or allies, please RSVP to [email protected] by 10 am on the day of the event
