School News

CMAS testing this week is for students that need to make up a Math session or have extended time for CMAS Math testing. Families were sent information on the evening of Monday, April 8, that included a link to the testing schedule for remaining testing days this month. Please email email Amy Baker at [email protected] or Justin Squires at [email protected] with questions about CMAS testing at our school.

 

Congratulations to our teams that competed in the Destination Imagination Colorado State Tournament on Saturday, April 6! The Fire Breathing Eagle Dragons – Sienna W, Hilde G, Daniel W, Davian T, Oliver M, Van W, and Samuel W – took second place at the middle school level in the Fine Arts Challenge and were recognized with a DaVinci Award. The Warrior Eagles – Ella S, Cooper K, and Jada S – took first place at the middle school level in the Scientific Challenge. Way to go, Colts!

 

The draft minutes from the February School Accountability Committee meeting are available on the school website. The next meeting will take place on Monday, April 22 at 4 pm.

 

Students that eat school lunch, please have your student ID ready to scan the barcode in the lunch line. If you need a replacement ID, please email Mrs. Baker.

 

Information on the elective selection process for current seventh grade students will be communicated soon. Families may view a list of electives in the Google Classroom for their student’s science class. Please contact Mr. Keane at [email protected] with questions.

 

Students that have formed teams for the Jeffco Middle School Battle of the Books should be reading the books and taking notes in preparation for our school competition.

 

Individual counseling services with Resilience 1220 therapists are now being offered at our school during the school day. If your student already works with a Resilience 1220 therapist and you are interested in your student meeting during the school day, please reach out to your therapist directly. If you are interested in beginning services with a Resilience 1220 therapist during the school day, please reach out to Melissa Shute at [email protected].

Adult family or community members available at the beginning or end of the school day to help keep the drop-off and pickup of students safe and well supervised are invited to volunteer with our Watch D.O.G.S.! Eyewitness to History

In alignment with our journey to become a No Place for Hate®- designated campus and to recognize A Day Without Hate, West Jeff Middle students will participate in the Mizel Museum program Eyewitness to History: A Holocaust Survivor Speaks, featuring speaker Osi Sladek, on Thursday, April 25. We will have a modified schedule and students will start in Advise from 8:45 - 9:45 am to take part in this learning opportunity.

Adult family members are welcome to attend the event. They should plan to check in at the office upon arrival, and will be hosted in Room 109 in a Coffee with Counselors format. 

The program's curriculum is scaffolded to ensure the presentation is grade level appropriate and addresses state requirements for Holocaust and Genocide Studies in Colorado Public Schools. If you have questions about this programming, please contact Melissa Shute at [email protected].

 

PTA News

The next School Store is tomorrow Thursday, April 11 during lunches. Students may pay with cash, card or Google/Apple Pay. Nothing is over $5 and all proceeds benefit the PTA which goes right back to helping students! Check out the flier of new items for more information.

 

Families of eighth graders should expect an email this week about Continuation planning opportunities. We need your help to make this a success.

Community News

Jeffco Public Schools is hiring! There are available positions in many areas for adults interested in working for Jeffco Public Schools. Learn more about available positions and apply online on the Jeffco Jobs Board at jeffcok12jobs.org.

We have an immediate opening at our school for an Independence Support Para Educator: Job 26181 - Para Educator - Independence Support 6th Various. The position is .875 FTE (7 hours/day) and starts at $19.13/hour.

 

Healthy School Meals for All: Mountain Resource Center invites families to help continue ensuring funding for Healthy School Meals for All, the program that voters approved that has been feeding all our school children at no cost in Colorado, by completing the Meal Benefits Application. No matter when families fill out the application, it can help with future funding!

 

Outdoor Gear Swap: Evergreen Bike Club is holding an outdoor gear swap on Saturday, April 13th from 11 am - 3 pm outside of Evergreen High School. Attendees may buy and/or sell any outdoor equipment (no weapons please), or donate items to raise funds for your choice of the Conifer High School Mountain Bike Team Evergreen MTB team, or Evergreen Bike Club. Sellers are asked to RSVP using the form on the Gear Swap page.

 

Football Weightlifting Camp: Conifer Lobos Football invites middle school football players to attend weightlifting camp from 6 - 8 pm April 15 - 18 at the Conifer High School Weight Room. The camp is open to students in 6th - 8th grade and the cost is $25, payable at the door using card, cash, or Venmo. Please fill out the form to sign up.

On Thursday, April 18th at 7:30 pm, we will have a meeting for 8th grade parents, to provide information about the Conifer football program and answer any questions you may have. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Jen Knolmayer at [email protected].

 

National Charity League Meet & Greet: The National Charity League is a national non-profit organization that encourages community service and volunteering opportunities for mothers and their daughters in grades 7 - 12. Families interested in learning more about the Colorado Foothills Chapter are invited to our Meet & Greet on Sunday, April 21, from 2:30 - 4 pm at Evergreen Fire Station #2, 1802 Bergen Parkway. School Board Town Hall: Board of Education District 2 representative Paula Reed will be hosting a Town Hall on Wednesday, April 24 from 5:30 -7 pm at Golden High School (701 24th Street, Golden). Bingo Night: Conifer Lobos Football is hosting bingo at the Aspen Park Community Center (26215 Sutton Rd, Conifer) on Thursday, May 2nd. Come out and support the football program, have fun playing bingo, and bid on silent auction items. The suggested donation is $10 for 5 games. Appetizers and drinks will be available with donations. Safe2Tell Student Ambassadors: Safe2Tell Colorado is actively searching for students who are positive examples in their school and community and are interested in student safety, mental health, and/or equitable access to resources. Their ambassador program is an excellent opportunity to engage in challenging conversations and be part of the solution to issues teens face. Incoming sophomores, juniors, and seniors are eligible.

 

Spring and summer youth activities and camps: 

Mountain Youth Rugby: practice Tuesdays and Thursdays starting April 9 in Marshdale (Evergreen), games at Front Range locations each Saturday from May 25 - June 29.

Gold Crown Girls' Flag Football Spring League: practice/play each Saturday from 10 am - 12 pm, April 13 - May 18 in Wheat Ridge.

Inspire Juniors Rec Conifer: mountain biking Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 - 7 pm at parks in or near Conifer from April 16 - June 11, summer season June 13 - August 8.

Mountain Predators Football and Cheer: practices begin in August; 8-game season at Front Range locations from late August through November. First-year players may register for free using the code MYFNEW at checkout. Early Bird pricing ends April 30.

South Jeffco Coyotes Football and Cheer: practices begin in August; 8-game season at Front Range locations from late August through November.

Summer Musical Theatre Camp at CenterStage in Evergreen: theatre tech one and two-week sessions in June, and a two-week scenes from Hadestown session June 3 - 14.

 

Jeffco Gifted and Talented Events: Jeffco Public Schools' Gifted and Talented Department is hosting Understanding and Managing Transitions for Gifted Learners with Julie Skolnick on Thursday, April 18, 6:15 - 8 pm via Google Meet.

 

Resilience1220: Connect, Grow, ThriveResilience1220 events: Resilience1220 is a local non-profit organization that provides free counseling sessions and support groups for young people ages 12-20, and community outreach and events that increase awareness of mental health issues.
