Dear West Jefferson Middle School Staff and Families,

Safe2Tell is a very important tool that helps us keep Jeffco schools safe. At times, however, Safe2Tell is misused. False reporting of a school threat is a crime in Colorado and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

As you know, tips about threats to our school were majorly disruptive last week. These tips were not credible. This weekend, additional threats were reported with such vague information that they cannot be investigated. It is unacceptable that an individual or individuals connected to our community are intent on creating disruption and preying on our greatest fears.

As we prepare to have school tomorrow and enter our last week of class, I ask that you have a conversation as a family about school being a safe place and how we all collectively contribute to that safety.

If your child has information that is making them feel unsafe, please collect all of the details and use Safe2Tell to report it. This is an anonymous platform and students do not need to be afraid of retribution. Essential details include people's names so that the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and our district's Department of School Safety can thoroughly investigate to ensure the safety of all students.

Out of an abundance of caution, we remain vigilant with a heightened level of security at West Jeff this is week. However, it is critically important that we shift our focus to celebrating our eighth graders who are moving on to high school and the seventh graders who will take their place as leaders of our school. Our students will never get this time in their lives back. We can work together to ensure that our students have a positive and memorable end to the 2023-24 school year. Thank you for your support.

In partnership,

Kim Halingstad
Principal
