School News
Families were sent two emails the week of August 28th about screenings for student needs. All students will be included in the screenings unless their families complete and return opt-out forms to the school per the following directions:
If you want to opt your student(s) out of the Social Skills Improvement System™ Social-Emotional Learning Edition Screening/Progress Monitoring Scales (SSIS SEL), please complete and return the opt-out form to Social-Emotional Learning Specialist Melissa Shute or the main office by September 8.
If you want to opt your student(s) out of the student needs survey, which helps the school determine individual, small group, grade level, schoolwide, and community interventions and resources, please complete and return the opt-out form to counselor Craig Enlund or the main office by September 11.
If you are an adult family member, teacher or staff member, or community member interested in the School Accountability Committee (SAC), please contact Kim Halingstad to express your interest. We will be meeting Tuesday, September 12 at 4 pm in the WJMS library with a virtual option.
Families, please refer to the email that contained the link to this week's newsletter for additional information on graffiti that has been found in our student bathrooms. If you or your student have any information about the graffiti, please contact the main office.
Please join us at West Jeff Middle for our Community Mental Health Resource Showcase on Tuesday, September 19 from 5 - 7 pm. Your WJMS Mental Health Team will kick off the evening with a short presentation about individual roles supporting students and families. Following will be the first "Coffee with the Counselors" session discussing back to school anxiety and relevant strategies for families. Community partners in attendance will include Resilience 1220, Mountain Resource Center, and Conifer Counseling. Coffee and light refreshments provided. Please RSVP to help us plan for attendance. Please contact Dan Keane, [email protected], with any questions.
There will be no school on Friday, September 22 for a non-student contact day. Classes will resume as usual on Monday, September 25.
The following assistance information is summarized from earlier Weekly Wednesday Updates:
- If you need to make arrangements to split the bill, set up a payment plan, or have other questions about student fees, please contact Mrs. Jessee.
- All families should complete a HSMA Combination Form on SchoolCafé. It is one of the ways to be considered eligible for other potential benefits, such school fee waivers.
- Families interested in receiving a bag of non-perishable food each Friday afternoon may contact counselor Craig Enlund or complete the 285 Backpack Project Form and return to the counseling department.
- The Rocky Mountain Kids Before & After Care Interest Survey for WJMS is open to families impacted by the cancellation of bus route so the school can estimate the number of families interested in before and after-school care for our students.
