School News

Congratulations to our students whose artwork is in this year's Jefferson Foundation Middle School Art Exhibit: Ericka A., Kyler B., Allyson C., Katelin D., Justin G., Paige H., Sydney K., and Meilani W.. Ericka's sculpture received a Director's Choice Award! The exhibit is open through Monday, May 16, at the Lakewood Cultural Arts Center, 470 S Allison Parkway in Lakewood.

Our music students will be performing next week: band on Tuesday, May 17; orchestra on Wednesday, May 18; and choir on Thursday, May 19. All concerts begin at 6 pm at the school.

Yesterday the WJMS Track & Field Team tied for 3rd place overall and won 2nd place for the boys in the middle school regional championship at Jeffco Stadium! Our athletes placed in every event, competing with eighteen other middle schools and over 500 athletes. The team has two more meets this season, including hosting the last meet on Thursday, May 19th at our school. We thank the volunteers that help make our track and field program successful: coach Tammi Renninger and Chris, Jeanie, Liz, Callie, and DeNae. Way to go, Colts!

Our sixth and seventh grade digital citizenship learning in May will focus on wellness checks and reviewing this year's material. Please refer to the family letter for additional information about ways families can assist their students in understanding the month's topics.

The May School Accountability Committee meeting minutes have been published to the school website. Adults interested in serving on the committee in the upcoming year may contact the school office or email [email protected] for more information.

Jeffco Food & Nutrition Services reminds families to check in SchoolCafé to see whether their student has a negative meal balance, meaning they owe money for food they have consumed. While negative balances follow a student during their time in Jeffco, payment options are available. Please email [email protected] or call 303-982-2174 with questions.

Families, please keep in mind that the district Code of Conduct outlines consequences for vandalism and off-campus behavior. Please reconsider if you are letting your students go to local businesses after school, especially on Fridays, with no adult supervision.

Eighth Grade Reminders

The 8th grade Continuation committee asks eighth grade families to send a copy of their student’s kindergarten school picture (or another photo taken around that time) to Karen Kitchner at [email protected] ASAP.

Conifer High School would like all incoming ninth grade students to have a public library card. Families of eighth grade students are asked to complete the form linked below if their student will need a card of their own or will be using an adult family member's card. If the student already has a library card, they do not need to fill out the form.

PTA invites eighth graders to celebrate at the End of Middle School Bash from 6 to 7:30 pm on Wednesday, May 25th! The totally awesome 80’s themed bash will have food, games, music, a selfie station, a caricature artist, and a photo booth. The event is open only to current West Jeff Middle eighth graders. A completed digital permission slip is required for entry.

2022-2023 School Meals Update

Jeffco Food and Nutrition Services would like families to be aware that starting in August 2022, school meals will no longer be provided at no cost to all students. They will be charged based on the student’s free, reduced, or paid meal eligibility. Once the meal prices for the 2022-23 school year have been set, families will be notified of any changes.

Free & Reduced Lunch ApplicationThe Free & Reduced Meal application for the 2022-23 school year will be available for families to complete starting on July 1, 2022. Online applications may be completed in SchoolCafé. Paper applications are available from schools and at the Food & Nutrition Services office, 809 Quail Street Building 1, Lakewood.

Meal services for the 2022-23 school year will have students come through the line and eat in the cafeteria. Students will use their PIN numbers when receiving meals and a la carte items. Product and labor shortages may continue to affect menu items and availability.

SchoolCafé will continue to have school menus and allow families to set up an account to make payments to their student's meal account, place restrictions on items and frequency of their student's a la carte purchases, and apply for free/reduced price lunch. SchoolCafé directions are available on the district website.
