School News

With the approach of summer, please keep the following in mind:

  • Keep highly-sugared and caffeinated energy drinks from coming to school;

  • Choose school attire within the WJMS Dress Code guidelines;

  • Bring a refillable water bottle to use at school; and

  • Continue making good choices about appropriately wearing masks and adhering to assigned seats in the cafeteria during lunch.

During the week of May 10, sixth and seventh grade students will be ranking their elective choices for the 2021-2022 school year during homeroom. Families may choose to have a conversation with their student(s) regarding electives they may want to take. We will do our best to place students in their top choices as we are able. Students may be scheduled in electives that are lower on their list as class sizes and scheduling logistics can make it difficult to get all top choices. Please reach out to one of the counselors if you have any questions.

There is still time to order your student's yearbook! Orders may be placed by either Jeffco Connect (click on Jeffco Student Fee Payment in the left-hand panel) or by sending a check made out to West Jefferson Middle School and turning it in at the financial office; please note "Yearbook" and your student's name in the memo line. 2020-2021 yearbooks cost $12.

Our sixth grade students will engage in digital citizenship learning in May focusing on digital wellness and reviewing this year's material. Please refer to the family letter linked below for additional information about ways families can assist their students in understanding this month's topics, along with links to family activities by grade level, a family tip sheet, and additional resources.

If your student has medication in the school’s health room, please plan to pick up any unused medication by May 27. All medication that is left in the school health room after May 27th will be disposed of according to district policy. If you have any questions, please contact our school health aide Jessica Leonard, 303-982-3056, Jessica.Leonard@jeffco.k12.co.us.

Spirit Week

WEB Leaders have selected the below themes for a fun spirit week next week, May 17 - 21, to end the year.

Monday, May 17: Hawaiian Day
It's almost summer break, so it's time to get into the summer spirit! Dig out your best Hawaiian shirts, leis, and flip flops! All other regular dress code rules apply. If you have PE on Hawaiian Day, please make sure that you also have an appropriate pair of shoes for that class.

Tuesday, May 18: Decades Day
Do you sometimes think you should have been born during another time in history? Maybe you are a bit hippyish and from the 60's, or maybe you rock neon colors and big hair from the 80's. Here is your time to have some fun representing another decade!

Wednesday, May 19: Tie-Dye/Rainbow Day
It's time to bring some fun color to the gray, rainy days that we have been having! Wear your brightest and most fun tie-dye and rainbow colors to brighten things up!

Thursday, May 20: Dress Like A Teacher Day
Whether it's the good fashion sense of Mr. Little or the fun facial hair of Mr. Wooldridge, let’s see what teacher YOU can be for a day! Please make sure to take a pic and send it to SEL Mrs. Baker! Even better? Take a pic WITH that teacher!

Friday, May 21: Pajama Day
Dress in your comfy PJs and slippers from the comfort of your own home! Please remember to keep things appropriate for online learning.

Keep it classy, West Jeff! All other dress code rules still apply during spirit week!

WJMS Dress Code

Following is our school dress code, published in the student handbook:

Dress Code Diagram: must have straps, entire area from armpit to armpit and to bottom of 3-4" length must be covered

Dressing appropriately for all school functions is a way of showing personal and organization pride. Neatness and cleanliness are the hallmarks of appropriate dress. Good judgment in dress is expected.

In an effort to promote a safe and educationally sound environment for students, the following dress code is in effect at all times at school and at school-related functions:

  • Students must wear clothes that cover the area from armpit to armpit

  • Clothing bottoms must be down to 3-4 inches in length on the upper thighs

  • Clothing tops must have straps that are at least 2 inches wide

  • All undergarments must be covered

  • Hats and hoods are not allowed

  • Offensive language (profanity, sexually explicit, drugs/alcohol) or graphics depicting alcohol on clothing is not allowed

Students in violation of the dress code will contact families for a change of clothing or will be provided with school-issued clothing. Students will not be allowed to return to class until the violation has been corrected. Repeated violations will result in disciplinary actions.

8th Grade Continuation

Eighth grade families were sent information on Tuesday, April 6 about the class photo, class t-shirts being provided by PTA, and the Continuation ceremony.

Students have the following upcoming tasks for the 8th grade slideshow:

  • Students may submit candid photos at forms.gle/6fKUb7iVvv8mtuaBA

  • Submit photos of yourself with a mask on and without a mask via the homeroom assignment "Mask and Unmasked" in Google Classroom.

The 8th grade Continuation ceremony will take place for students only on Thursday, May 27. We plan to record and possibly stream the ~45-minute event for family and friends.
