WJMS Learning Preference Survey

On Monday, August 3rd, families were sent the WJMS Learning Preference Survey. We urge every West Jeff Middle family to complete the survey by the end of the day today, August 7th.

Why is this survey important? It tells school staff which students will be accessing their learning 100% remote and which students will begin attending school under the hybrid model starting September 8th. These numbers are needed to to plan for staffing and space needs within the school.

Students who do not complete the preference survey will be placed in the hybrid schedule.

WJMS Hybrid and Remote Learning Schedules

Our remote and hybrid schedules were published on Friday, July 31. They have been communicated to families via SchoolMessenger and published on our website in both the news item 2020-2021 Remote and Hybrid Schedules and on our Calendar/Bell Schedules page.

Hybrid Group Scheduling Requests

Due to the complexities involved in developing a hybrid learning schedule that meets state and district safety requirements for students, we will not be able to honor families' requests for students to be assigned to certain days of the week in the hybrid schedule (i.e., assignment to Group A or B). Thank you for understanding.

WJMS 100% Remote Learning Model

We would like to thank everyone for their patience as we worked to figure out what the 100% online learning platform would look like at our school. At this point, all remote learning will be facilitated through West Jefferson Middle School.

Students who have elected to have 100% remote learning will be accessing instruction through Google Classroom, using the same structure as seen in the hybrid schedule. This will be a combination of synchronous and asynchronous learning.

Health & Safety Guidelines for Student Return to School

The Restart Jeffco plan includes detailed information that outlines the increased mitigation measures that are being implemented at our school for the upcoming school year.

Please be reassured that each measure described in the restart plan will be implemented to our greatest abilities, including limiting student and staff contact with one another, socially-distant classroom settings, one-way walking paths throughout the building, and the provision of frequent opportunities for hand washing, including the installation of more hand sanitizer dispensers throughout the building.

All staff will be wearing district-approved face masks and students will be required to do the same.

Sixth Grade Families

Social-Emotional Learning Specialist Jen Baker and sixth grade teacher Alex Buffington are our school's coordinators for WEB (Where Everyone Belongs), a program designed to welcome and support students' transition to middle school by connecting them with WEB Leaders, who are positive, responsible, hand-selected eighth graders. Students engage in group activities with their WEB Leaders throughout the year and start middle school on a positive note.

The following is summarized from their letters for families regarding opportunities for incoming sixth grade students, 6th Grade Family Letter for Virtual Orientation and Tour and 6th Grade Family Letter Update Regarding Tours:

During the week of August 17th, incoming sixth grade students and their families will receive two invitations: students will be called by their WEB Leader with a personal invitation to the virtual orientation day on Friday, August 21 and provide details of how and when to join online, and adult family members will receive an email invitation to a sixth grade parent/guardian meeting with our principal via Zoom on Wednesday, August 19th at 5 pm.

The Virtual Orientation Day will begin at 9 am on Friday, August 21, when students access the "Welcome to West Jeff" video; its link will be sent out and posted on our website for students to access. At 10 am students will meet their WEB Leaders and a small group of other 6th graders via Zoom. In order for your child to maximize their experience, if possible, we recommend that they use a computer with a camera rather than a tablet or smartphone for this meeting.

Building tours for incoming sixth grade students will be offered by reservation throughout the day on Friday, August 28th. Please use the 6th Grade Orientation Tour SignUp Genius to sign your student up for a time slot. Families are asked to drop their student off at the reserved time; family members may leave and return or wait in their vehicles during their student's tour.

We will be following all health and safety guidelines, including temperature screening and social distancing. Please make sure your student is wearing a mask or neck gaiter. Bandanas are not a district-approved face covering.

2020-2021 Supply List

We have a simplified supply list for the 2020-2021 school year:

Please note that lockers will not be available. Students will bring a small backpack daily containing that day's class supplies and a charged Chromebook.

Families in need of assistance with school supplies for their students may receive them through the Mountain Resource Center in Conifer. Families are asked to complete the School Supply Pickup form on the MRC website. Supplies will be distributed by appointment on August 18, 19, and 20.

Chromebook Distribution

If your seventh or eighth grade student needs to check out a Chromebook, we will be distributing Chromebooks on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 from 9 am until 3 pm.

If your student has a Chromebook already checked out to them, please have them use that Chromebook.

If your student is entering sixth grade and is new to the district, the checkout process is slightly different. Please contact Amy Baker at the email address below to make arrangements.

If you are leaving the district, you may drop off your Chromebook during the distribution time on August 11.

Please contact digital teacher-librarian Amy Gutierrez Baker at if you have any questions.

Jeffco Public Schools uses Securly, a cloud-based web filtering product, for district Chromebook and iPad devices connecting at home or on public WiFi networks. Securly is activated once a student logs into their device using their district Google login credentials. In March 2020, the district sent an e-mail to all families about using the free SecurlyHome App to monitor their students' activity on district-owned devices.
