Principal's Welcome Letter

Dear West Jeff Middle families,

Welcome to the 2020-21 school year! This will be a year like no other. Please know that we are busy working to make it as positive an experience as possible for your children. I want to extend a warm welcome to our new West Jeff Middle families. I hope this letter finds you and your family safe and healthy and enjoying your summer.

Our "new normal" these days is ever changing and filled with uncertainty. As a parent myself, I know how difficult it is to make decisions about your child’s health, well-being, and their education. To make these decisions, you need clear information.

On July 8th, Jeffco released its Restart Plan to the community at large. There is a survey included with the plan for you to complete, communicating if your child will be attending in-person (hybrid) instruction or the online/remote learning option. Whether you choose the in-person learning option or the remote learning option, we are going to take care of your child and provide them with effective instruction and support for both their academic and social-emotional needs.

Earlier today, July 23rd, the district sent out updated information regarding the Restart Plan, which includes important dates and safety mitigation measures that will be implemented. Our school year will begin with a two-week remote learning start on August 24th. Then on September 8th, we will shift to a hybrid model which will allow us to have smaller groups of students alternating days between in-person and remote learning.

I understand you likely have many questions and a need for clarity as to what school will look like for your child. We are reworking schedules for in-person and remote learning, planning for health and safety requirements, and defining the structure and expectations for all learning options. To meet these guidelines, school will look different than what it has in the past. I can assure you that we will make it work; we will put together a high-quality plan in which we will provide each student with effective instruction. Again, the safety of our students and staff will be our top priority.

One thing that I am asking you for is patience. We received the revised Jeffco Restart Plan today, just as you did. Putting together a detailed, quality plan takes time. Our goal is to be able to communicate a detailed learning plan for our school within the next few weeks. Please know that I will communicate all pertinent information as I receive it. Be sure to check your email and the WJMS website, and follow WestJeffersonMiddleSchool on Instagram.

Thank you for your patience and support during this time.
