School News

Upcoming Events

Val-O-Grams will be sold during lunches on February 11, 12, and 13. The items will be delivered to students' 6th period classes on February 13. Val-O-Grams an assortment of Valentine-themed items - small toys, little plushes, and the like - that are sold for $1-3 apiece. Buyers write the name of the recipient on an included tag and PTA volunteers sort the items by 6th period class for delivery. Adult volunteers may use the Val-O-Grams SignUpGenius to indicate how they would like to help with sales or delivery.

 

There will be no school on Friday, February 14 for staff development and on Monday, February 17 to observe Presidents Day.

 

Our choir students will be performing on Thursday, February 20th at 6:30 pm in the West Jeff Middle cafetorium. Choir students are expected to be in the choir room at 6:00 pm.

 

The Friends of Rachel Club is hosting a Donut and Hat Day on Friday, February 21st to raise funds to help the family of a West Jeff student who is currently fighting leukemia. For a $1 donation made in the commons at the start of the day, donors may receive a donut (available on a first-come, first-serve basis) or wear a hat all day in school. Trimester 2 ends on Friday, February 21. Trimester 2 grades will be available on Infinite Campus/Parent Portal after 3:30 pm on Monday, February 24.

 

Trimester 3 schedules can be accessed through Infinite Campus/Parent Portal after 3 pm on Friday, February 21. Please be aware that schedule changes are limited to incomplete schedules or mistakes. For scheduling questions, please contact counselor Craig Enlund (6th grade and 7th M-Z) or Dan Keane (8th grade and 7th A-L).

 

The Coffee with the Counselors series will continue in March with a date and topic TBA. Your input is welcome to inform future topics:

 

West Jeff Middle Garden

Are you interested in helping plan, construct, or fundraise for a school garden? We plan to start construction of a school garden this spring and summer to repurpose the old tennis courts. To help this project get underway, we need help with reaching out for donations of funds and materials (tools, soil, wood for raised beds, seed, plants, etc.), holding fundraisers, grant writing and community outreach.

The garden will serve as a place for teachers to incorporate outdoor lessons into their classes and provide a beautiful space for after school clubs to use. Our students will have opportunities to learn about growing food and crops in a high-altitude environment and the chance to work through the unique challenges of food and plant production in the arid mountains.

Denver Urban Gardens has committed to support us as an affiliate garden, which will provide us with expert help in planning and construction, as well as curriculum support for our faculty and students. If you are interested in any aspect of helping get our garden off the ground this spring, please contact Kate Broyles at kkatem@hotmail.com.

 

End of Year Awards

Honor roll and content area award recognition for the 2019-2020 school year will take place in May:

  • 6th grade will be recognized on May 14th (soft cutoff for grades will be the 12th);

  • 7th grade will be recognized on May 19th (soft cutoff for grades will be the 18th); and

  • 8th grade will be recognized at Continuation on May 20th.

The assemblies for 6th and 7th grade students will take place in the gym during Advise and families will be able to sit on the bleachers. Students will be recognized in alphabetical order and each student will get all their certificates together. After the ceremony, there will be a small breakfast reception for students and their families.

 

EnrollJeffco Second Round Enrollment

Second-round enrollment for the next school year through EnrollJeffco opened on Tuesday, January 21st. The second round is intended for families of new students, current K-12 students that would like to apply to a school of choice, and preschool applications. If you missed the first round but plan to attend your current or expected school, no action is necessary.

 

Cafeteria Position Available

If you know someone interested in working a 4-hour shift weekdays with the same days off as our students, our cafeteria has an opening for one part-time kitchen worker. The hourly pay starts at $12.48. Interested candidates may contact Jeffco Food & Nutrition Services at 303-982-6748 or apply through the Jeffco Job Board website.

 

PTA News

If you would like to help sell Val-O-Grams during lunches on February 11, 12, or 13 or to deliver items at the end of the day on February 13, please use the Val-O-Grams SignUpGenius to indicate how you would like to help.

Everyone is welcome at the February PTA general meeting at 6 pm on Wednesday, February 19th at Carreta Vieja restaurant (9064 Highway 285, Morrison). The January minutes have been published to the Documents page of the PTA website.

Please save the date in April for for our spring dance, which will be on Thursday, April 9th after school, and the Talent Show, which will have a date announced soon.

Community News

Frozen JR. at The Venue: The middle school company at The Venue Theatre is proud to present Frozen JR. every Friday and Saturday from February 7 to February 29 at 7 pm, with matinees on Saturday, February 15 and Sunday, March 1. 285 Winterfest: The 285 Winterfest returns on Saturday, February 29! The annual Conifer Area Chamber of Commerce event includes a snow tubing competition, snowman carving, and a free family movie at Stagedoor Theatre. Additional event information, competition registration, and event tickets are available on GoConifer.com.

 

Platte Canyon Little League: Registration is open for Platte Canyon Little League, which serves boys and girls ages 4-16. Player assessments, required for players ages 8 and older (except for 8 and 9 year old Coach Pitch players), are February 15 at Platte Canyon High School in Bailey.

 

Mountain Bike Team: Did you know that middle school students can ride and practice with the Conifer High School Mountain Bike Team? Club rides take place from April through June with practices and the high school race season running from July to October. Teen Mental Health Film Series: Dakota Ridge High School is hosting a teen mental health film series this spring with screenings of IndieFlix original documentaries: LIKE, about the effects of social media, will be shown February 20 at 7:00 pm and The Upstanders, about bullying and cyberbullying, will be shown April 15 at 7:00 pm. Admission to each of the films is free with registration to reserve your seat. Donations to Day Without Hate are welcome. LIKE is appropriate for viewers age 10 and order; The Upstanders is appropriate for viewers 13 and older. Links to RSVP will be published on the Dakota Ridge High School website.

 

Girls on the Run: Registration is open for the spring season of Heart & Sole, the middle school program of Girls on the Run. Practices take place after school on Tuesdays beginning March 3 and continue through May. Adult volunteer coaches are also welcome and needed! i9 Sports Soccer: Registration is open for i9 Sports' spring soccer at Conifer High School on Sunday afternoons from March 15 to May 17. Early bird registration and sibling discounts are offered.

 

Jeffco League Middle School Sports: Registration is open for track through the Middle School Sports Program, offered in partnership with Evergreen Park and Recreation District. Practices and/or meets are twice a week from the end of March to mid-May for track. The cost is $120 for track and includes transportation to meets; families are responsible for transportation after the meet. Please contact Jeff Sweet at jsweet@eprd.co for more information.

 

Conifer HS Bleacher Bucks: Have you already put in hours being a parent or spectator sitting on bleachers? The Conifer Lobos Unified Boosters are raising funds for new bleachers with back rests so you can look forward to sitting in comfort in the years ahead on the main athletic field at Conifer High School. Please consider making a donation at clubchs.org/donate or attending the Great Outdoors Event on Friday, April 10th at the Woodlands Event Center (8884 US Highway 285, Morrison - near Windy Point). Doors open at 6 pm for a fun-filled evening with catering, raffles, and silent and live auction items. Individual tickets are $50, a table for eight is $250, and a table for ten is $300.

 

Art of the Egg: Amateur artists are invited to visit Go Paint! in Evergreen to paint an egg for for 13th annual Art of the Egg, an egg design contest benefitting the Evergreen Downtown Business Association and Resilience1220. Entry is $18 for artists ages 8 through 13 and $25 for artists ages 14 and older. Finished entries are displayed at Evergreen National Bank from March 20 to April 22 for community voting and silent auction bidding with a finale party on April 22 at Maya's Cantina.
