School News

Upcoming Events

Schools across our district will be collecting non-perishable food in January for Grub Club, a program that provides homeless and emancipated teens attending Jeffco Public Schools with food and hygiene products. This year, mountain area schools will focus on collecting canned chicken with pull-top lids January 13 to February 7.

The Make Your Voice Heard survey is open for students to take through Friday, February 7. The shortcut to the survey is available on school-owned computer desktops and can be accessed at https://jeffcosurvey.jeffco.k12.co.us/Login.aspx. Make Your Voice Heard has been given to students in grades 2-12 for over a decade to collect feedback about student engagement. The results are compiled into reports used by district leaders and school staff to help maintain the positive aspects of our schools and to address individual student needs. More information on the surveys administered by the district may be viewed at the Research & Data page on the district website.

First-round enrollment for the next school year closes on January 15. As of January 7th, only one-third of our school's families have logged in to EnrollJeffco to indicate what school their student(s) will attend for the 2020-2021 school year. Please do so at your earliest convenience; your Jeffco Connect login credentials are used for EnrollJeffco. If you have any questions, please call Debbie Jessee at 303-982-3056.

Jeffco Public Schools staff and students are invited to #InnovateFun by voting on the 29 Innovation Fund finalists. West Jeff Middle is among the finalists and your vote can help us win the funds to start building our new school garden! Voting is open January 11-17. Please visit https://jps.news/InnovationFundInfo for more information.

Parent-teacher conferences will be held on Wednesday, January 15th by teacher invitation and on Thursday, January 23rd by appointment. Elective teachers will be on a drop-in basis in their rooms. Students are welcome to attend conferences; they must stay with their adult family members the entire time.

Our School Showcase for families of current fifth-grade students and interested community members will run from 6:30 – 8:00 pm tonight, January 15, 2020. The event provides an opportunity for students and parents to talk with current students and staff, learn more about the middle school experience, electives, Outdoor Lab, and our GT Center program.

We are having a Hat Day this Friday, January 17th to support the Grub Club. Students may wear a school appropriate hat for a $1 donation. Donations will be collected at the door of the school upon arrival. Students can wear their coolest hats and support a great cause!

There will be no school on Monday, January 20th in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Second-round enrollment for the next school year through EnrollJeffco opens on Tuesday, January 21st. The second round is intended for families of new students, current K-12 students that would like to apply to a school of choice, and preschool applications. If you missed the first round but plan to attend your current or expected school, no action is necessary.

The Coffee with the Counselors series continues in January with Behind the Academics, which will be presented during parent-teacher conferences on Thursday, January 23rd. Your input is welcome to inform future topics:

W-20 route changes through January 24

West Area Transportation released the following update on W-20 route coverage on January 14th:

Students that ride W-20 in the afternoon to stops on Gray Fox Drive, Armadillo Trail/Way, Grizzly Way and Red Fox Drive, plus the North Turkey Creek Road stops at Evergreen Memorial Park and Ocelot Trail will ride W-19. They will get home a little later than usual.

Students that ride W-20 in the afternoon to stops on Kilimanjaro Drive, Annapurna Drive, Olympus Drive, Silverhorn Drive/Lane, Jungfrau Drive, Willa Lane, and Danks Drive will all ride W-22.

These changes are expected to be in place through the end of the week ending January 24th. Thank you.

Yearbooks

2019-2020 yearbooks may be purchased for $30 through January 31, 2020 in either of two ways: online through Jeffco Connect, findable under Jeffco Student Fee Payment, or by check, made out to West Jefferson Middle School and sent to the school office, that notes the student's name and "yearbook" in the memo line.

Non-reserved yearbooks are sold on a first come, first serve basis at the end of the year. Ordering in advance guarantees your student will have a yearbook.

Cafeteria Positions Available

If you know someone interested in working a 4-hour shift weekdays with the same days off as our students, our cafeteria has an opening for one part-time kitchen worker. The hourly pay starts at $12.48. Interested candidates may contact Jeffco Food & Nutrition Services at 303-982-6748 or apply through the Jeffco Job Board website.

PTA News

Our teacher appreciation committee is organizing food for staff during conferences with a snack buffet on January 15th and a dinner catered by JJ Madwells on January 23rd. If you can help with a donation or time, please indicate how you would like to help on the Conference Dinner SignUpGenius.

The January school store is coming up on Friday, January 24th. Students can purchase snacks and inexpensive items right after school in the lobby.

Our PTA helps the school provide opportunities for our students and staff through funding, providing social event opportunities, classroom grants, and more! One simple way you can support PTA's mission is with your paid membership. Please consider participating in our winter membership drive by February 1st by joining PTA online with CheddarUp.

Everyone is welcome at the January PTA general meeting at 6 pm on Wednesday, January 29th at Carreta Vieja restaurant (9064 Highway 285, Morrison). The November minutes have been published to the Documents page of the PTA website.
