Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! Every Wednesday, our families receive a Weekly Wednesday Update with information about upcoming school events, news from PTA, and community events. We encourage families to also access this information and more on our website.

School News

Schedules and Fees

Student schedules and fees will be released on Monday, August 12th at 3:00 pm. Schedules can be accessed through Infinite Campus/Parent Portal. Fees can be accessed and paid through Jeffco Connect. Please be aware that schedule changes are limited to incomplete schedules or mistakes.

For scheduling questions, please contact Craig Enlund (6th grade and 7th M-Z) or Dan Keane (8th grade and 7th A-L).

For questions about accessing Parent Portal, Jeffco Connect, or specific fees, please contact Debbie Jessee.

 

First Day of School

Wednesday, August 14th is the first day for sixth grade. Our WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) leaders have fun activities planned, school tours, locker practice, and a chance to follow your schedule.

What do you need to bring on August 14th?

  • A clearly labeled lunch or lunch money

  • A smile and a positive attitude

  • Please leave your school supplies at home until August 15th

Our WEB leaders will have an orientation for 7th and 8th graders new to our school on Wednesday, August 14th from 12:30 to 2:15 pm. We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to West Jeff Middle.

The first day for all students is Thursday, August 15th.

 

Back to School Community Barbecue

On Monday, August 12th from 5:30 to 7:00, West Jeff Middle School and our PTA are sponsoring a Community Barbecue. This is a chance to meet our staff, visit with other families, and have a little fun. Incoming 6th graders will also have the opportunity to set up their lockers and store school supplies in their lockers before the first day at school.

 

New Policies at WJMS

Based on feedback from our community regarding the social and academic impacts of cell phones at school, we have updated our Personal Device Policy. This change has the support of staff, PTA, and our School Accountability Committee.

Smartphones, smartwatches, and tablets are to be kept in a student’s locker during the entire school day or, at minimum, turned off and out of sight in a student’s pocket from 7:30 - 2:20. This includes lunch, recess and hallways.

We have also made changes to our Dress Code to be responsive to all students.

 

Family Handbook

Want to mark your calendars before the start of school? The Family Handbook contains important dates, contact information, maps, policies, and more in a quick-to-navigate document.

If you bookmark the link, you will be able to see the most up-to-date version as changes are made to the document. We will have a limited number of hard copies available at Back to School Night on August 20th. We know how helpful it can be to have information on hand at home.

 

PTA News

The West Jeff Middle PTA would like to welcome you and your student to the 2019-2020 school year! Below you will find some general information for the beginning of the year.

 

Community Barbecue: West Jefferson Middle School will be hosting a community barbecue on Monday, August 12th from 5:30 – 7:00 pm. This is a great opportunity to meet our staff, mingle with old and new friends and enjoy the last few days of summer break together. We will have plenty of food, games and activities. We look forward to seeing you at the school!

 

Boo-Hoo/Yahoo! Breakfast: On Wednesday, August 14th, sixth grade families are invited to the library after their students leave to attend WEB. Teachers will be available to talk one-on-one to address questions and concerns. PTA will provide breakfast items in the library starting at 7:30!

 

PTA/Accountability Welcome Breakfast: Join the PTA Board, the Accountability Chair, and our new principal, Kim Halingstad, for a welcome breakfast on Thursday, August 15th from 7:30 to 8:30 am in the cafeteria. Enjoy coffee and light breakfast fare, get to know other families, and get your questions answered about activities and events this school year. All are welcome!

 

Take Action with PTA: Our PTA is committed to actively helping the school provide opportunities for our students and families to socialize, raise funds while having fun, and recognize our students' achievements. Your PTA membership dollars help make these things possible.

 

Community News

Center for the Arts Ice Cream Social: Join Center for the Arts Evergreen for an old-fashioned ice cream social on Sunday, August 18 from 2 to 4 pm. The free community event will include games, face painting, crafts and more!

 

Girls on the Run: Registration opens soon for Heart & Sole, the middle school program of Girls on the Run. Practices are Fridays after school from September 6 through November 8. (Dates are subject to change.) The cost is $170 and includes practices, entry into a 5k at the end of the program, and a Heart & Sole t-shirt. Adult volunteer coaches are also welcome and needed! Jeffco League Middle School Sports: Registration is open for cross country and flag football through the Middle School Sports Program, offered in partnership with Evergreen Park and Recreation District. Practices and/or games are twice a week from the last week of August through mid October. The cost is $130 and includes transportation to games (families are responsible for transportation after the game). For more information on the program, please contact Jeff Sweet at jsweet@eprd.co.
