Posted on 05/15/2019
Summer is almost here. Let's finish strong!

Good afternoon, West Jeff Middle families. This is your Weekly Wednesday Update for May 15, 2019.

School News

Upcoming Events

Thank you for bringing library books back! There are no fines for late books. If a book is lost or has sustained non-repairable damage (e.g., took a swim, got lost in the woods) please let the library staff know and we can issue a statement for you to settle the replacement cost with the financial secretary. Outstanding items do convert to a fine added to the student's fees on June 1st.

We have a BOGO Book Fair at the end of the school year to help families stock up for summer reading. The fair is open school hours through Thursday, May 16.

The final track meet of the season for our students participating in track and field through the Middle School Sports Program is Tuesday, May 21st at Jeffco Stadium. If you can attend, please come and cheer on students from Jeffco middle schools as they compete at multiple distances, relay, long jump, and shot put.

We do not have to make up any time due to the security threat on April 17th, so our last day of school remains Thursday, May 23rd and is an early release day. School dismisses at 11:50 am. Please refer to our 2018-2019 End-of-Year Information page for details on locker cleanout, lost and found, medication pickup, and more.

Heather Swegle honored with Jeffco PTA award

Congratulations to Heather Swegle, who has been named a 2019 recipient of the Jane Hammond Applause Award, a Jeffco PTA recognition of individual PTA members who value people and model integrity, teamwork, or exemplary volunteerism in Jeffco schools. She will be presented with the award at the Jeffco PTA's Spring Fling next Wednesday at Red Rocks Country Club.

Yearbooks

Students that have purchased yearbooks will receive them on May 23rd. A limited number will be available for purchase on a first come, first serve basis.

Advise teachers are reviewing basic signing manners with our students:

  • People will remember you by what you write in their yearbook. Make sure that what you sign is school appropriate.

  • Be kind. If you don’t have something nice to say, just sign your name or add a statement like “enjoy your summer.”

  • Respect others and their property. If you ruin another person’s yearbook, you will need to pay for it. The cost is $35.

8th Grade Continuation

8th grade Continuation is Thursday, May 23rd. The ceremony will take place at 5:15 pm in the gym with the students-only party taking place in the cafeteria and commons from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.

Volunteer and donation opportunities are available for all West Jeff Middle families that want to contribute funds, goods, or time to help the event go smoothly. Current sixth and seventh grade families are especially welcome to help with event setup so eighth grade families can be present for the Continuation ceremony prior to the students-only party.

After School Activities Survey: As a school, we are looking at the possibility of having more variety in after school activities available for students next year. We currently offer sports through the Middle School Sports Program and some after-school clubs organized by staff and community organizations. With this in mind, we are reaching out to gauge interest and feasibility in possibly adding more opportunities for our students. Please complete the survey linked below to share your input.

Community Garden: Are you interested in helping to plan a school garden at West Jeff Middle? We are looking for volunteers to begin planning a school garden for Spring 2020. If you are interested, please email Kate Broyles at kkatem@hotmail.com.
