Finish 2018 with a Spirit Week

Good afternoon, West Jeff Middle families. This is your Weekly Wednesday Update for December 12, 2018.

School News

White Glue for Math

Students in Mrs. D'Amico's math classes are asked to bring in at least one bottle of white glue for an upcoming math project. Thank you for your support!

Upcoming School Events

Our instrumental music students are performing this month: orchestra on Monday, December 17th and band on Wednesday, December 19th. Both performances take place at 7:00 pm in the gym.

The school will be closed for winter break from December 24th to January 8th. Classes resume on Wednesday, January 9, 2019.

Spirit Week

Our WEB leaders have planned a Spirit Week to wrap up 2018! There are posters hung around the school to help remind students of the days' themes:

  • Monday, December 17: Pajamas Monday
Spend Monday in your comfy pjs! Students may wear footie pajamas with clothing underneath and shoes on their feet.

  • Tuesday, December 18: Ugly Sweater Tuesday
Rock that “not-so-cool” sweater that you said you would NEVER wear for a chance to win a prize at lunch!

  • Wednesday, December 19: West Jeff Wednesday
Show your West Jeff Middle spirit with the school colors or school spirit wear.

  • Thursday, December 20: Rainbow Thursday
Remember the mnemonic ROY G. BIV? Let’s brighten up the school by decking out in the colors of the rainbow!

  • Friday, December 21: Grub Club Hat Friday
Donate $1 for Grub Club, a program that provides food and personal care items for homeless and emancipated Jeffco teens, and wear your favorite hat all day in school!

Except where noted above, regular dress code guidelines apply and students are expected to continue participating in class respectfully and actively. Any questions, comments or concerns may be directed to Mrs. Baker in counseling, Ms. Sjogren, or an administrator.

After-School FACS Club

We have a new after-school club starting in January: FACS Club, where students can level up their skills in cooking, sewing, and other areas traditionally taught in Home Ec. The club will meet twice a month after school from 2:30 to 3:30 pm starting in January. If your student is interested, have them fill out the survey on Mrs. Buffington's website.

Starting in January, all families will use EnrollJeffco from their existing Jeffco Connect account to let the district know what school their students want to attend in the upcoming school year. This will also replace the previous Choice Enrollment process.

Families will use the new system between January 22 and February 9, 2019 to indicate whether their students will be attending their district-assigned (neighborhood) school or applying to other schools in the district.

Families that submit a choice application will hear from all the schools they applied to in mid- to late February. They will receive a notification indicating (1) an opportunity to accept an offer or (2) information about wait list placement for each school application. They have five days to accept an offer; only one offer may be accepted.

Please visit the EnrollJeffco page on the district website for more information.

Students may also serve as MC/hosts of the show and/or help backstage with props, costumes, lights, sound, video, and graphic design.

Box Tops for Education

Did you know that Box Tops for Education benefits middle schools? The funds earned from Box Tops turned in at West Jefferson Middle School this year will be used to purchase new recess equipment. There is a collection bucket in the commons outside Mrs. Jessee's window.

PTA News

The Helping Hands Gift Drive helps meet the needs of families in our mountain community and makes the lessons on compassion and empathy that our students has been focusing on in Advise classes even more meaningful. Students and family members may take a mitten from the snowman in the school lobby. Each mitten has a gifting suggestion for a specific, anonymous student or community member in need. Make your selection and provide a new, unwrapped gift now through December 18th.

The School Store Holiday Shop will be open December 19, 20, and 21 during lunches. The Holiday Shop provides an opportunity for the students to buy gifts for their friends & family. All items are priced at $5 or less.

The Teacher Appreciation committee is hard at work planning goodies and events for the teachers throughout the year, and we are asking for your help with holiday gifts for teachers! We'd like to give each teacher and staff member a $15-$25 gift card for the holidays. Restaurants, Amazon, movie passes, book stores... anything goes! Too busy to get a gift card, or just don't know which one to get? Consider sending in cash instead and we will do the shopping for you! Please bring in items to the office in an envelope labeled PTA.

If you are interested in helping to plan the 8th Grade Continuation celebration in May, please email Aimee at Subcommittee meetings will be happening soon to organize this important milestone event!

Our next PTA meeting is Thursday, January 17th at 2:30 pm in the library. There's no pressure to volunteer, just come and check out what's going on.

Save the date for the Fun Run Fundraiser on Friday, February 1st! More information will be released before winter break.

Please feel free to reach out to or follow the West Jeff Middle PTA via e-mail, the PTA website, the PTA Facebook page, or join online.
