Flag Football plays at EMS Thursday!

Good afternoon, West Jeff Middle families. This is your Weekly Wednesday Update for September 26, 2018.

School News

Flag Football

Our flag football team is playing our "rival", Evergreen Middle School, at 3:30 this Thursday, September 27, at Evergreen Middle School. It is the only game that the team will play in the mountain area, so it's a great opportunity for folks to come out and support the team without driving too far. Bring a camping chair or blanket to sit on the sidelines as there are no bleachers or stands.

Welcome, Ms. Colinda!

We would like to welcome Colinda de Groen to the office staff as our new receptionist! Ms. Colinda will be checking students in and out of school, answering phones, taking care of bus passes, and helping in the clinic. Please send bus pass requests to her at

Fall Spiritwear Sale

The fall spiritwear sale window is now open! Order your West Jeff gear, designed by Denver Athletic, by 11:59 pm on Sunday, October 21st. Orders will be delivered to our school by November 14th.

Spirit Week September 24-28

We're celebrating the week leading up to Conifer High School's Homecoming game with a Spirit Week at West Jeff! Dress code applies, except for hats on Tuesday and hats and minimal costume makeup on Thursday. On Friday night, West Jeff students can enjoy free admission with their student ID to see the Conifer Lobos take on Skyview at 7 pm at Conifer High School. (Adult admission is $6.)

Spirit Week, September 24-28: Pajamas Monday, Team Sports Tuesday, Twins Wednesday, Cosplay Thursday, Community Friday

Safety Reminders

We have had reports of cars speeding along the neighborhood streets. Students do walk to and from school along these roads, so please slow down.

If your student is staying after school, they need to either be with a teacher or stay in the commons area. All students need to be picked up by 3:10 unless they are staying later with a teacher.

As the days are getting colder, please encourage your students to bring a sweatshirt or wear a coat outside. In the morning students remain outside until 7:20 when the bell rings. We also go outside for recess every day, except when there is heavy precipitation or the temperature dips below 20°.

One week to the Book Fair!

Embark on a reading adventure with Scholastic Book Fairs' Enchanted Forest of Books: Discover Your Story in the West Jeff Middle Library this fall! The fair will be open 7:20 am to 3 pm every weekday from October 4 through 10 and open late during parent-teacher conferences on October 4 and 9.

Volunteers are especially welcome at the start and end of the school day; please use our Fall Book Fair SignUpGenius to sign up. If you would like to volunteer during the school day, please contact Mrs. Baker in the library at

Sixth Grade Families: Outdoor Lab Notes

Our sixth grade students are going to Outdoor Lab during the week of October 22nd. If you have not been using the Outdoor Lab grocery card program, the fees for Outdoor Lab are due by October 15, 2018.

Packing List: We are asking families to review the packing list in advance so they have ample time to borrow or buy any items on the list that their student may need. Items may also be borrowed at the Outdoor Lab site once students arrive. The list is on the Outdoor Lab website under the Parents and Students tab. If you have any questions, please reach out to your student's Advise or science teacher.

Sample tree cookie nametagTree Cookies/Tree Discs: We need 250 round pieces of wood that are about 4 inches in diameter and 1/2 inch thick. These will be used as nametags during the week of Outdoor Lab, so they will need a small hole drilled near the edge. If there are questions or if you'd like to see an example, please email Ms. Sjogren or Ms. Buffington.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences are just around the corner! Meetings are scheduled in 5 minute intervals with core teachers; elective teachers are available on a drop-in basis in the cafetorium.

If you would like to meet with your student’s core subject teachers, please email Julie Barrett or Debbie Jessee and include the following information in your email:

  • Student’s name

  • Which core teachers you want to meet (teachers’ names)

  • Which day and what time: Thursday, October 4th 3:30 – 8:30 pm or Tuesday, October 9th 3:00 – 8:00pm

Eighth Grade Trip to Warren Tech

Eighth grade families, we are in need of adult chaperones! On Tuesday, October 9th, the eighth grade will be heading down to Warren Tech to tour their facilities and learn about future opportunities in the district. Busses will leave West Jeff at 8:45 AM and return around 11:45 AM. If you are interested in joining, please contact counselor Craig Enlund at or call him at 303-982-3056.

PTA News

This Friday, September 28, is the next School Store! Students can purchase snacks and inexpensive items right after school in the lobby.

Can you help our Teacher Appreciation Committee provide food and drinks for teachers as they work extra-hard during conferences? We are hosting a pasta bar dinner for teachers on October 4th at 5 PM and a snack buffet that will be set up all afternoon and evening on October 9th.

Our fall 2018 social event is a Glow Dance Party that will take place on Friday, October 5th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the school. Admission is $5 and includes snacks and drinks; glow jewelry and airbrush tattoos are available at additional cost. A signed permission slip is required for entry. PTA is providing a DJ, fun decorations, and more - and we can use adult volunteers and donations to help make it a success. If you can help, please use the Fall Dance SignUpGenius to let our event chairs know. Thank you!

Please feel free to reach out to or follow the West Jeff Middle PTA via e-mail, the PTA website, the PTA Facebook page, or join online.
