Weekly Wednesday Update - May 16, 2018
Posted on 05/16/2018
Summer is almost here. Let's finish strong!

Good evening, West Jeff Middle families. This is your Weekly Wednesday Update for May 16, 2018.

Early Release Day Survey

Many of the mountain area elementary schools have changed their schedules on early release days. Rather than have students for a partial day, they have changed to a full non-student contact day for teachers to work on data analysis and planning, and PBL/STEAM planning. This is a change from the previous schedule of a half-day with students and an afternoon of teacher-directed work. West Jefferson Middle School would like to gather parent input about the middle school following the model of the elementary schools for those days. Please go to and provide your input by May 16 to add your voice to our school's planning. Thank you!

Upcoming Performing Arts Dates

Wednesday, May 16th: Band concert, 7 pm

Thursday, May 17th: Drama performances, 6:30 pm

Monday, May 21st: Choir performances, 7 pm

Library books due

Thank you for bringing library books back! There are no fines for late books. There is a list of student names with outstanding library items posted outside the library and assistance in determining what items a student has checked out is available. If a book is lost or has sustained non-repairable damage (e.g., fell in the bath, chewed on by jackalopes) please let the library staff know and we can issue a statement for you to settle the replacement cost with the financial secretary.

BOGO Book Fair

Come celebrate twenty years of Harry Potter magic in the library on May 16, 17, and 18! We're holding a BOGO (buy one, get one free) fair from Scholastic Book Fairs so you can stock up for summer reading -- and everything in the fair is eligible for the BOGO deals, including fun items like pens, pointers, and bookmarks.

Lost and Found

Lost and Found is out of control again. Please come by school to claim your students' lost jackets, lunch boxes, water bottles, books and much more! All unclaimed items will either be donated to Mountain Resource Center or thrown into the trash.

Yearbook Etiquette

Students that have purchased yearbooks will receive them on May 23rd (eighth grade) and 24th (sixth and seventh grades). Advise teachers are reviewing some basic signing manners with our students:

In PTA News

Thank you to everyone that helped with time, food, and items for Teacher Appreciation Week. Our teachers and staff felt so valued! Teacher appreciation chairs Heather Swegle, Christy Seabourne, and Val Hennes did a fantastic job of coordinating the activities, decorating the staff lounge, and making sure all the details were perfect

The 8th Grade Continuation party will be on Wednesday, May 23rd, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Traditionally, eighth grade parents plan and run the party, then seventh grade parents help out with the finishing touches and assist the vendors while eighth grade parents attend the Continuation ceremony. Please help make this event a success and confirm what you can help with on the SignUpGenius at . If you have any questions, please contact the co-chairs for this event: Sandy Blaylock, 303-921-8572 or Cassie Alley, 303-815-6875.

Additional information on the above items and other upcoming events can be found in the May 16th PTA supplement at
